New Faculty – Fall 2012

The Robert H. Smith School of Business welcomes 14 new faculty members to start the fall 2012 semester. The new faculty members hail from PhD programs and previous posts at top universities worldwide, including two former Smith School staff members who joined the teaching ranks. Smith students will also benefit from a stable of new adjunct instructors who bring their real-world experience into the classroom. The new faculty kicked off the semester at Smith with an orientation and welcome dinner on August 27.

  • Lei Zhou, visiting assistant professor -- Ph.D. in business management from the University of Maryland

Decisions, Operations and Information Technologies

  • Sean Barnes, assistant professor -- Ph.D. in applied math and scientific computation from the University of Maryland
  • Margaret Bjarnadottir, assistant professor – Ph.D. in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Zeinab Karake, lecturer – Ph.D. in information and decision systems from George Washington University
  • Adam Lee, Tyser Teaching Fellow – Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Maryland

Finance

  • Xiaohui Gao, visiting assistant professor – Ph.D. in finance from the University of Florida
  • Michel Padhi, visiting assistant professor – Ph.D. in finance from the University of Maryland
  • Alberto Rossi, assistant professor – Ph.D. in economics from the University of California San Diego
  • Liu Yang, assistant professor – Ph.D. in finance from the University of Maryland
  • Youngsuk Yook, visiting assistant professor – Ph.D. in finance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

  • Relli Derfler-Rozin, assistant professor – Ph.D. in organization behavior from the London Business School
  • Melissa Carrier, lecturer (previous full-time staff member) – MBA from the University of Pennsylvania
