Smith School to Host 11th Annual Monte Carlo Night

Join the Smith School community for the largest social event of the year: Monte Carlo Night 2013. The annual fundraiser will be held Saturday, Feb. 16. It is organized by current MBA students and brings together MBAs, alumni, faculty and staff for a night of socializing, dancing and gaming.

This year, the event will be held at the historic Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C. The black-tie-optional gala usually draws nearly 1,000 attendees. The party starts at 8 p.m. and lasts until midnight.

Monte Carlo Night began as a fundraising event in 2002 to honor Michael Scott Lamana and Eric Cranford, Smith school part-time MBA students who were victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The proceeds from the $85 admission support a merit-based MBA scholarship fund established in their memory.

The registration fee includes an open bar, light food and gambling chips that can be used at gaming tables set up throughout the ballroom.

“Monte Carlo Night has become the signature social event for the Smith community,” said Marcus De Paula, MBA ’13 and event organizer for the MBA Association. “This year I am incredibly excited about the venue. The stunning space is where both NATO and NAFTA were signed and established, and the neoclassical architecture represents Washington perfectly. The event has grown to such an incredible scale, bringing together full-time and part-time MBA students, and MS students. The faculty and staff are reunited with alumni, and all toward a fantastic cause.”

Monte Carlo Night is held in conjunction with an MBA alumni reception before the gambling festivities. The cocktail reception is free to alumni and their guests and offers an opportunity to reconnect with former classmates, faculty and deans in a suite at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium before heading to the main Monte Carlo event.
