Smith Students Excel in IBM Watson Competition

This spring, Smith undergraduates teamed up with UMD engineering and computer science peers to answer a challenge from IBM to develop ideas for implementing its recent customer service innovation, the Watson Engagement Advisor.

The participants, UMD Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams (QUEST) students, showcased their ideas in a case competition. Smith students Praneet Puppala , Yash Mehta,  and Jessica Manzione  contributed to the winning entry, a Home Depot app that delivers a one-stop home improvement knowledge base for expansive do-it-yourself projects.

Puppal, with Quest Executive Director and Smith professor Joseph Bailey, discussed the competition on Maryland Public Television in a recent edition of Your Money and Business. Watch here (segment begins at 13:04).
