Smith Welcomes 450 Specialty Masters Students

Smith Welcomes 450 Specialty Masters Students

This academic year, we welcomed approximately 450 new specialty masters students to the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Incoming students will catch the attention of employers as they delve deep into specialized programs for accounting, finance, information systems, marketing analytics, and supply chain management.

The Masters Programs Office staff along with student leaders in the Smith Masters Student Association (SMSA) organized the week-long orientation (Aug. 16-21, 2015), which included meetings with faculty members, team-building activities, career workshops, student advising, and a tour of campus.

Students got a crash course in career development, job search strategy and campus recruiting from the school’s Office of Career Services. Second-year students and business professionals, including Smith alumni, presented the sessions. Key takeaways included the importance of communication skills in successfully securing employment.

“These new students join about 440 second-year students, making this our largest graduate program at Smith,” said Amy Swann, director of specialty masters programs at Smith. “Orientation was a success, and we received great feedback from the students.”
