We Are Smith: Sarah Kroncke

Sarah Kroncke, senior lecturer, brings Wall Street to College Park.

Sarah Kroncke, MBA '00 uses her investment banking experience to manage both the Mayer and Senbet Funds. They have beaten the S&P 500 nearly every year since inception, and 75 percent of the undergraduates who are fortunate to learn from her are placed on Wall Street.

We make the world our classroom through experiential learning. We Are Smith.

Sarah Kronke: We Are SmithWhat career achievement makes you most proud?

Joining the faculty at Smith and having the ability to impact others careers.

If you could meet any historical figure, who would it be?

Not sure. Not the kind of thing I generally think about.

What is the most interesting thing you have in your office?

A picture of me with Warren Buffett  -- on his knee as if he is proposing!

What drives your passion for Smith?

I got my MBA from Smith. It was a major turning point in my career path. I am very grateful for what my MBA did for me.

If you could give advice to a large group of people, what would it be?

Like what you do. Do what you like. If your number one motivator is money, then you most likely won’t find happiness in your career.

You have a completely open weekend – where are you and what are you doing?

I’m hanging out with my husband and three children – playing outside, going for a bike ride, and just being together as a family. Oh, and having a beer or glass of wine is nice, too.

Who are your heroes in real life?

I don’t really have personal heroes.  Lots of people I admire for different things, be it personal, professional, athletic or philanthropic accomplishments.

If money were no object, what one project would you tackle at Smith?

I wish it was that simple and don’t want to seem critical of other departments when everyone is working hard with the resources available to us and many competing objectives.

If you were to die and come back as a thing, what would it be?

I can’t really think of anything. I think being human is pretty cool.

You have a lunch meeting at Ledo – what’s on your pizza?

Just cheese. My food tastes are pretty simple.

What’s your favorite memory from your time at Smith?

I don’t think it’s any one thing but a combination of things – relationships I have formed, the experience of being on the Mayer Fund as a student and now advising the Mayer Fund and Senbet Funds, seeing students succeed and reach their goals, also seeing students challenge themselves.

If you won the lottery, what would you buy?

A beach house!
