CLIC to Sponsor Business Athletes Panel at the Smith Business Summit

The Center for Leadership, Innovation, and Change (CLIC) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is sponsoring a panel on the “Business Athletes” leadership model at the Smith School Business Summit on Nov. 13, 2015, in Baltimore.

The panel will feature Senior Associate Dean Joyce Russell and leaders from a variety of professions – from marketing to sports to finance – to foster a discussion on the qualities that great athletes share with great business leaders.

Students, alumni and members of the Smith community at large are invited to the panel to learn more about some of the key differentiators of the best athletes and top business leaders and how the “business athlete” model can be employed to rise to the top.

Our guest speakers include:

Reese

Cathy Reese, Head Coach of UMD’s Women’s Lacrosse team, which garnered their second-straight NCAA championship in 2015. Reese is one of the most decorated coaches in at the collegiate level and has been named ACC Coach of the Year five times. 

Morris

Carolyn Covey Morris, President and CEO of QMobius, Inc., a brand marketing and public relations firm with national and international clients. She is known for sparking relationships and has worked with top companies including CapitalOne, Nissan and Sax Fifth Avenue.

Blackman

Donna Meacham Blackman, Senior Vice President Finance and Financial Planning and Analysis at BET. Blackman is a 2010 graduate of Smith's executive MBA program. Prior to joining BET, she held various senior-level positions at Marriott International.

Caravello

Halina Caravello, VP of environmental, health, and safety at Tyco International. As a member of the executive leadership team, she leads Tyco toward its vision of “Zero Harm to People and the Environment.”

Weaver

Connie Weaver, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for TIAA-CREF Financial Services. Under her leadership TIAA-CREF launched initiatives to build the brand and forge stronger ties with customers.
