COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Eleven University of Maryland students have traveled to Nicaragua this summer as part of a new UMD study abroad program that combines entrepreneurship with service learning.

About 500 new students participated in orientation from Aug. 19 to 27 for the Robert H. Smith School of Business’ Master of Science in Business program. Activities took place on main campus, as well as the Smith centers at Shady Grove and the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has awarded $200,000 to the Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC) at the Robert H. Smith School of Business for research and development of enterprise tools and technologies for managing risk in the cyber supply chain.
This summer 105 students traveled to Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, and Spain for short-term abroad courses offered by the Smith School’s Office of Global Initiatives. More than 80 graduate students participated in three courses while 19 undergraduates traveled to Germany and Italy for a course on entrepreneurship.

This conference, sponsored by the Center for Complexity in Business at the Robert H. Smith School of Business is the premier meeting to discuss research at the intersection of complex systems and business.
