Brent Solomon is an independent valuation, transaction, and CFO advisor and an adjunct professor for the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. Solomon provides strategic CFO advisory services and project-based valuation and transaction advisory services for venture capital/private equity fund sponsors, public REITs, and businesses involved in technology/government contracting, real estate, media/entertainment and other industries. Solomon teaches business and valuation analysis using financial statements, created and teaches courses on valuation measurement, disclosure and auditing for financial reporting (Fair Value) for the master's program and private capital markets/closely held business valuation, and teaches valuation for closely held transactions in the executive education program.
Solomon retired in 2016 from CohnReznick after 17 years as a Partner and National Director for the Valuation and Transaction Advisory Group (VTAG). At CohnReznick, Solomon initially provided a full range of accounting and financial advisory services, then founded and focused on the VTAG practice, which grew to approximately 30 professionals in three major markets. VTAG performed several hundred valuation and financial advisory engagements annually for mergers and acquisitions, ESOPs, debt and equity funding, buy/sell, equity-based compensation, financial reporting, estate and income tax, litigation support, and strategic planning. Prior to joining CohnReznick, Solomon was a CFO/Corporate Controller for closely held businesses and a public company, and an Audit and Tax Partner with traditional CPA firms.
Solomon is a frequent lecturer on valuation/appraisal, business succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, fair value financial reporting, and ESOPs for industry groups, law firms, and financial institutions. Solomon served as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) ABV Examination Committee and the AICPA’s Fair Value Measurements & Reporting Conference Steering Committee, was a member of the Valuation Committee for the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF) and the REIS reporting standards committee, is a member of the AICPA’s Fair Value Curriculum Task Force, and is recognized as an ABV Champion for the state of Maryland. He was the National Conference Chair for the Association of Merger & Acquisition Advisors (AM&AA) for the Summer 2014 and Winter 2015 conferences, is the Chair of AM&AA’s Education Committee, and is AM&AA’s DC/MD/VA Chapter Chair. Solomon is the faculty sponsor for the University of Maryland’s Smith
Investment Fund and Collegiate Financial Management Association clubs, and the school’s primary point person and an instructor for the valuation section for the Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor executive education program in partnership with AM&AA.
Solomon received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science Degree in Finance from Johns Hopkins University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Accredited in Business Valuations, recognizing specialized training and qualifications in the field of business valuation, and a Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor.
