Dr. Cathy Yi Chen joined the Marketing Department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland as an Associate Clinical Professor in 2024. She teaches Marketing Principles, Digital Marketing, Marketing Strategy, Marketing Research, and Global Marketing in the Undergraduate and MBA programs. Prior to joining the University of Maryland, she held positions at Bucknell University and Singapore Management University. Dr. Chen’s overarching goal in teaching is to create an engaging and inclusive curriculum and learning environment, and help students build confidence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills under ambiguous situations. Her research focuses on the impact of culture and affect on consumers’ decision-making. She has published in Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Advances in Consumer Research, Handbook of International Marketing, Review of Marketing Research, and Handbook of Culture and Consumer Behavior. Dr. Chen holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from University of California, Los Angeles, a MA from University of International Business and Economics, and a BA from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
