Julie Pavlovsky joined the University of Maryland in 2000. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Finance Department. She brings 15 years of professional experience, including over 10 years of Wall Street experience in investment banking and equity research, to her position as a senior lecturer and faculty advisor for the Wall Street Fellows program. She currently teaches Financial Markets and Wall Street Finance and is the Faculty Champion for the Wall Street Fellows and the Sophomore Finance Fellows.
She was also an academic advisor and mentor to the UMD Football Team Investment Club. In 2021 she designed and led discussions for a 20+ member Football Investment club encompassing investments, the stock market, and careers in finance. Professor Pavlovsky mentored students through investment selection and presentations delivered by the group to the entire football team and coaching staff (over 200 people).
Prior to joining the Finance department, she was a career advisor with the Office of Career Services. Prior to joining Smith, she was with Wachovia Securities as an Associate Analyst covering healthcare stocks. Before joining Wachovia, she was with ABN AMRO in the healthcare corporate finance group, advising clients on a number of product areas, including mergers and acquisitions, public equity offerings, and private placements. Throughout her career, Julie has advised institutional investors and the highest level of company management teams in a variety of sectors. Julie started her career as a research analyst at Cambridge Associates, an investment management consulting firm.
She received her MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business and a BA in Government & Politics from the University of Maryland. Professor Pavlovsky received a Distinguished Faculty Award (2017) – Awarded to one faculty from Business School by the senior class. She also received the prestigious Krowe Teaching Award for 2017/18 and 2021/22 years in recognition of outstanding teaching. She is a recipient of the 2020 Philip Merrill Presidential Scholars Program, awarded to the top undergraduate students and their faculty mentors. She consistently ranked as Smith School's "Top 10% Teaching Award".
