Maryland Smith’s Center for Global Business has been awarded the Advancing International Trade State Award by NASBITE International, the leading association for global business education, professional development and trade skills credentialing.
In awarding the distinction, NASBITE applauded the center for being "instrumental in guiding many activities that have helped to develop and promote international trade in the state of Maryland.” The award will be officially presented during the group’s national conference on May 20.
“You and your colleagues are being honored for your lasting contributions and positive impact on international trade," the group said.
Of specific note this year were three of CGB’s programs: Maryland Business Adapts, which champions the resilience of Maryland-based global businesses that adapted to changing business conditions during the coronavirus pandemic; MAPIT Alliance webinar series, which sought to map export resources from across Maryland to make them more coordinated and accessible to new-to-export and experienced exporters; and the Global Marketing Virtual Internship Program, which continued to bring real-world business experience to students, even as businesses curtailed internship opportunities during the pandemic.
“These and other CGB programs that build the capacity of Maryland’s exporters are essential to what we do as a Title VI CIBE grant recipient. This grant administered by the U.S. Department of Education promotes international understanding and economic competitiveness not just of the companies we serve, but of the students who work with these companies as well,” said Rebecca Bellinger, executive director of the center. “I’m honored that the center has been recognized for our contributions to this mission.”
The USEAC in Baltimore, the Maryland Department of Commerce, and the MD-DC District Export Council all supported CGB’s nomination.
