Financial Times ranks Smith MBA in top 25

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (Jan. 26, 2015) — A new Financial Times ranking recognizes the full-time MBA program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business among the top 25 in the nation and top 50 in the world. The Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2015, released today, also scores Smith’s PhD program top 10 in the world.

Dean Alex Triantis said faculty, staff, students and alumni at Smith form a tightknit community that propels the school forward. “Together we’re delivering on the Smith School’s mission,” he said. “We are working to create knowledge, promote a learning environment that fosters intellectual discovery, and equip current and future leaders to assess complex problems and deliver innovative solutions.”

Overall, the full-time MBA program climbed from No. 26 to No. 24 among U.S. schools in the annual ranking, and from No. 50 to No. 49 in the world. The PhD program climbed two spots from No. 11 to No. 9 in the world in 2014.

Smith’s doctoral ranking is based largely on a pair of 2014 graduates landing faculty positions at top-50-ranked schools, plus three placements in top-100 schools and a “concerted commitment by faculty to rigor and mentoring students,” said Professor Robert Windle, director of Smith’s PhD program.

The Financial Times ranked the Smith School among the top 50 in the world for research (No. 26), percentage of female faculty (No. 31), percentage of female students (No. 34), internationalism of faculty (No. 35), and job placement success (No. 37). The average salary for full-time MBA alumni three years after graduation was $108,143.

Smith’s full-time MBA program is also ranked No. 17 in the world by Bloomberg Businessweek. See a full list of the school’s rankings here.
