On Thursday, March 9, 2017, the Smith Business Academy at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business welcomed Jamal Simms, president and CEO of Quevera. Quevera is a company founded by a core group of technologists and business professionals who share a revolutionary vision for how a software company could succeed while adhering to a set of core values that governed its partnerships with its customers, employees and corporate partners.
Victor Mullins, associate dean of the Smith undergraduate program, facilitated an interactive discussion on Simm’s journey from high school until today. The members of the Smith Business Academy were truly engaged asking questions related to critical thinking, being innovative, following one's passion, the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur, etc.
The mission of the Smith Business Academy is to develop students professionally, socially and academically as a community of minority African American and Latino students. The Academy is dedicated to creating a community where students are emboldened to challenge themselves and encouraged to engage in impactful service, leadership and cultural experiences.
