Hospitality Business Fellows Visit Hilton Worldwide

Hospitality Business Fellows Visit Hilton Worldwide

On April 14, 2017, the Hospitality Business Fellows (HBF) from the Robert H. Smith School of Business visited the Hilton Worldwide corporate headquarters in McLean, Va. Hosts Kimo Kippen, chief learning officer, and Jasmyn Franklin, lead recruiter, introduced Tru by Hilton, the company’s newest brand, which targets millennials with stylish rooms, innovative lobbies and the latest technology.

The HBF students learned about Hilton’s history, as well as its branding, technology, and growth strategies. The tour of headquarters was followed by a visit to Hilton McLean, the hotel where the company tests its new technology. Connie, the concierge robot, a joint venture between Hilton and IBM, met them the students at the door. At the hotel, they heard inspiring stories from the staff about career development opportunities at Hilton, as well as its culture of innovation. The visit culminated with a toast to the students, in which they were treated to an exclusive cinnamon-infused non-alcoholic cocktail developed by the hotel’s food and beverage manager.

The visit was arranged by Janet Wagner, the HBF faculty champion and associate professor  and director, Center for Excellence in Service. Students in The Hospitality Business Fellows learn strategic tools and analytical skills they need to succeed as business leaders. Hospitality Business Fellows, designed in partnership with Choice Hotels, Hilton Worldwide and Marriott International, includes three, three-credit courses.
