MCLEAN, VA and COLLEGE PARK, MD - October 20, 1998 - Information Management Consultants (IMC), Inc., a leading information technology and management consulting firm in McLean, VA, is donating $52,500 over three years to the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park. The gift will fund the IMC Knowledge Management Seminar Series at the Smith School of Business, providing $15,000 in annual support. It will also fund an annual $2,500 first prize to the school's best MBA Consulting Project team.
"We are pleased to sponsor this seminar series at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, a premier institution," said Sudhakar Shenoy, Chairman and CEO of IMC. "Through our partnership with the Robert H. Smith School of Business, IMC seeks to strengthen the critical linkage between information technology companies and academic institutions. Relationships of this type create the kinds of "win-win" outcomes that are integral to our business."
The first IMC Knowledge Management Seminar was October 9 at the Smith School of Business. Titled "Research Directions in Electronic Commerce," the seminar featured Stuart Feldman, director of the IBM Institute for Advanced Commerce at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. Feldman discussed the potential of electronic commerce to revolutionize the global economy.
The Robert H. Smith School of Business will present the first IMC Award to the best MBA Consulting Project team in February. The school requires its second-year MBA students to work as teams to complete semester-long consulting projects with a variety of companies and organizations. This requirement gives students invaluable hands-on experiences inside an organization.
"We are excited about our new partnership with Sudhakar Shenoy and IMC, said Howard Frank, dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business. "We are working strategically to distinguish the Smith School as one of the nation's best schools for business learning and knowledge advancement. Critical to our success are activities that provide opportunities for the school to focus on knowledge and information management. Mr. Shenoy's gift is enabling the Smith School to provide such opportunities."
