Join the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business as we celebrate International Education Week (IEW) from November 12-16, 2018.
This worldwide event is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.
The Center for Global Business (CGB) at Smith is hosting several events throughout the week to celebrate our global mindset. Events include an alumni panel on "Global Competencies for the 21st Century Workplace" and an International Coffee Hour to name a few. Students who are interested in learning a language or taking part in a global internship can attend an information session to find out how to incorporate these classes into their schedule. New this year are Faculty and PhD lunch and learns sessions. On Thursday, CGB’s academic director, Kislaya Prasad will present his research on Cuba’s restaurant industry, and on Friday, PhD student, Viktoriya Zotova will join the activities by presenting her research on international finance institutions.
The U.S. Department of Education produced a video featuring the executive director of CGB, Rebecca L. Bellinger, to highlight the benefits of a global mindset and an international education. “International Education Week is the perfect opportunity to engage with fellow students, faculty, and staff in the Smith School to demonstrate just how globally-minded we are as a community,” says Bellinger. “The entire university is invited to join us in Van Munching Hall for a week of globally-themed events and programs.”
This year, the Smith School will highlight international research and thought leadership at the Smith School by using #SmithKnowsGlobal on social media. The Smith community will also showcase student mobility programs and the global reach of alumni by using #SmithGoesGlobal.
