Maryland Smith welcomed 85 new students into its Flex MBA and Online MBA programs this January. The new students spent a weekend participating in Smith’s opening residency program, Jan. 14-15, at Van Munching Hall in College Park, Md.
The opening residency gave the students their first taste of the curriculum and experiences they’ll be immersed in for the next 24 to 28 months as they earn their MBA degrees. Students had the chance to connect in person with classmates, professors, staff and the Terp community. The new cohort participated in classroom learning sessions covering topics that included business analytics, leadership and teamwork, and financial markets.
“This past weekend was a whirlwind of introductions, networking, tips and tricks, and overviews of what’s to come,” said one new student after participating in the program. “While this degree may have seemed daunting at first, I am filled with optimism and inspiration after interacting with the Smith professors and my fellow peers.”
Smith marketing professor Mary Beth Furst led the opening residency program, with support from the Master’s Program Office staff. Several other Smith professors also led sessions to start the new students off on their MBA journey.
The new students join the 130 students who started the FlexMBA and Online programs in fall 2022. Both part-time programs are offered to professionals who are often working full-time but want to expand their networks, gain more ways to stay relevant in business, and progress in their careers.
The FlexMBA is offered at Maryland Smith’s three campus locations – in Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Rockville, Md. Students also have the opportunity to take courses online. Students in the Online MBA take all of their courses online.
