The PhD Program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has welcomed 17 new PhD students, who are beginning their academic careers this fall.
Their diverse backgrounds prepared them for the training and projects ahead, as they join our current PhD students and Smith’s best faculty researchers, says Robert J. Windle, director of doctoral programs and a professor in the Department of Logistics, Business and Public Policy.
“As we tell the students at orientation, we selected them to bring their talents to Smith. Our goal is develop and train them so that they will be successful at Smith and long after,“ Windle says. “Our deans are supportive of the PhD Program and faculty research. We are excited to continue strengthening the program and producing excellent researchers.”
Currently, 89 students – 27 percent domestic and 43 percent women – comprise Smith’s PhD program. The students explore such topics as asset pricing, healthcare management, data mining, price discrimination, online reviews, new markets, leadership and empowerment and more.
