Maryland Smith MBAs can all agree, the people set Smith apart from other MBA programs. On Nov. 14, 2016, the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted the annual one-day event, “Kaleidoscope: Advancing Diversity at Smith,” for prospective MBA students. Prospective students from around the country with a variety of professional backgrounds and cultures visited Van Munching Hall to immerse themselves in a typical day-in-the-life of a Smith student, beginning with a reception dinner.
Prospective students and current students shared meals, took a campus tour and sat in on two core MBA classes. They participated in classroom discussions and engaged with MBAs in a panel to answer questions about the application and admission process and to get a first-hand account of student life at Smith.
Current students shared their experiences on why they chose the Smith MBA, techniques to navigate the application process, as well as identifying the right program, and things they wish they’d done differently before coming back to school. Prospective students had the opportunity to ask questions and gain student perspectives on the academic expectations, social atmosphere and available resources here at Smith.
Each student emphasized the importance that “diversity of thought” plays in the learning process of Smith since 80 percent of learning happens outside the classroom.
After a brief question and answer session, the Smith’s Office of Diversity Initiatives and Office of Graduate Admissions gave an overview of available resources and the application process for the Smith MBA program.
