Smith School faculty and staff were clad in chef hats and “I Heart Smith Seniors” aprons for the Second Annual Smith Senior Pancake Night on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014.
Van Munching Hall’s Executive Meeting Space was filled with seniors who were ready to dig in to the all-you-can-eat pancake menu, complete with an assortment of toppings.
Smith seniors were enthusiastic to attend an event celebrating their successes as students. The delicious food and break from studying was an added bonus.
“Stacks on Smith was a great study break,” said senior Victoria McKay. “It really showed that the Smith School cares about its seniors.”
Last night, Smith School faculty and staff traded teaching lectures for serving pancakes. It was a unique opportunity for them to connect with students outside of the classroom and to wish them good luck as finals approached.
“This was a lovely way to relieve stress from finals and see friends you won't see for awhile and connect with faculty in a more casual manner, “said senior Hannah Sonnenberg.
Stacks on Smith exemplifies the sense of community that is core to Smith’s supportive and collaborative initiatives. It is a special way that Smith celebrates its outstanding seniors each year -- unlike any other celebrations on campus -- and a tradition that students can remember fondly after graduation.
“This year’s Stacks on Smith tops last year,” said Victor Mullins, dean of undergraduate programs at Smith. “It was more intimate. We gave away every pancake. We had more faculty involved. And the mood was perfect.”
