Amal Isaiah, recent Smith School EMBA graduate and head of Pediatric Otolaryngology at the University of Maryland, recognized as a 2024 Poets & Quants ‘Best & Brightest Executive MBA.’

Amal Isaiah, a physician, prolific researcher and recent graduate of the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, is among the world’s “Best & Brightest Executive MBAs Of 2024,” according to Poets & Quants.

Isaiah, who completed his Smith EMBA this year as head of Pediatric Otolaryngology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, holds six patents and has findings published in 70-plus journal articles and two books.

He is among the 62 EMBAs recognized by P&Q from “54 of the highest-ranked (globally) programs” for “academic performance, extracurricular leadership, and professional achievement made them the most invaluable members of their classes.”

A former Rhodes Scholar and an Oxford University PhD holder in neuroscience, Isaiah told P&Q he chose Smith’s EMBA program “for its rigorous 18-month curriculum that accommodates the busy schedules of professionals continuing their careers.”

He also described how his choice fit his long-term objective: “The cost of healthcare in the U.S. is escalating rapidly, and a significant portion of this is financed by public debt. Recognizing that data is our most valuable asset, my goal is to lead an agile ecosystem focused on developing cost-effective healthcare solutions derived from this data.”

Isaiah further told P&Q that Smith’s program “strikes an ideal balance between developing quantitative skills and leadership abilities, strongly emphasizing crafting a personal leadership plan and integrating a comprehensive executive coaching strategy. This combination, unmatched by other regional programs, solidified my decision to enroll.”

He also credited Associate Professor of Management Rellie Derfler-Rozin for “providing a unique hands-on approach to understanding biases and economic consequences of unethical behavior.”
