Smith MBA Students Travel to Israel for Internship Program and Chronicle Experience via Video and Blog

Per capita, Israel is one of the most prolific places in the world for technology development, and ripe for new business growth. The University of Maryland is embarking on a new partnership with the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology – to harness these technological innovations and create new businesses that will ultimately drive economic development both in Israel and in the state of Maryland.

This summer, MBA students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business will travel to Haifa, Israel for a 10-week internship in a program spearheaded by the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship at the Smith School; the Bronica Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center (BEIC) at the Technion; the TechnionSeed incubator and T3, the Technion technology-transfer office.

Smith MBA students will partner with Technion students to develop commercialization strategies and feasibility studies for Technion-developed intellectual property and explore potential market opportunities in the United States. Directors from each partner organization are leading the program, along with additional support and mentoring from experienced Israeli and U.S. based investors and entrepreneurs.

Living and working internationally for 10 weeks will shape the participants’ MBA experience and immerse them in the challenges and opportunities of working in a global marketplace.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about Israel’s history and culture through sightseeing tours and company visits.

This technology fellowship program echoes a statewide goal to increase partnerships and opportunities to nurture and grow revolutionary technologies into viable businesses in Maryland’s leading business incubators. The rich international experience will give Smith MBA students the hands-on experiences that will shape them as innovative business leaders with entrepreneurial drive and global insight.
