Students, faculty and staff throughout the Robert H. Smith School of Business and across the University of Maryland celebrated International Education Week, Nov. 13-17, 2017. The Smith School hosted a range of events – from an alumni panel on global competencies in the workplace to an international dance workshop – to celebrate the global mindset of its students, faculty and staff.
International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State. During this week, universities and organizations throughout the world celebrate international education and exchange with special events.
Students learned how important communication is in today’s international business world at the Cross-Cultural Card Commotion event led by Chris Olson, assistant director for undergraduate programs of the Center for Global Business (CGB).
Nearly 60 students gathered to learn from three Smith School alumni about the importance of having a global mindset in the workplace. Rebecca L. Bellinger, managing director of CGB, moderated the annual panel discussion. Read a full summary of the event online.
Students tested their global trivia knowledge in the atrium of Van Munching Hall. An online quiz can be accessed to see sample questions from the event.
International staff and students, as well as local students interested in global discussions, attended the International Coffee Hour hosted by the Center for Global Business, International Students & Scholar Services, Education Abroad, and the Office of International Affairs.
Marina Augoustidis, assistant director for CIBER programs in the CGB, and MBA student Sandeep Iyer led students and staff in an International Dance Workshop co-sponsored by the Office of Human Resources.
By the end of the week, hundreds of students, staff and faculty participated in International Education Week events and learned more about global opportunities both on- and off-campus.
