In a renewal of good faith and a commitment to intercultural learning, Burapha University and the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business took part in the Ceremonial Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on June 22, 2010.
The signing of the MOU ensured the continuation of the Thai American Business Program, established in 2008 between the two universities. A result of the efforts of the Royal Embassy of Thailand in Washington, D.C., the program educates both American and Thai students about their respective cultures, while it also establishes important business and professional relationships for students, faculty, alumni and business professionals in both countries.
Representing the University of Maryland was Robert Waters, associate vice president for academic affairs and assistant to the president. Dr. Sompol Pongthai, president of Burapha University, represented his institution.
Future plans for the Thai American Business Program include hosting a group of undergraduate students from key Thai universities for a two-week study experience in Washington, D.C. Also, the Center for International Business Education & Research (CIBER), will serve as country lead to Thailand for the worldwide Global Business Project, organized by a consortium of 13 CIBERs across the United States. Additionally, another global learning experience is planned for Smith students in Thailand in Jan. 2012.
