Smith School Shines in U.S. News Rankings

Top 10 in Information Systems, Strong in Supply Chain, Management, and Entrepreneurship

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business ranks No. 23 overall and No. 13 among public schools in U.S. News' 2024 Undergraduate Business Program rankings. Notable specialty rankings include Information Systems, Supply Chain, and Management programs.

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business ranked No. 23 overall and No. 13 among public schools in this year's U.S. News and World Report Undergraduate Business Program Ranking, affirming its standing as a premier institution for undergraduate education. The University of Maryland achieved its highest-ever ranking at No. 44—rising 20 spots since 2020—and its highest ranking in over a decade among public universities at No. 17.

The Smith School improved in four top-25 specialties in U.S. News' undergraduate program sub-rankings. It ranks sixth in information systems, the school’s best-ever showing and up two spots from last year. It also stands at No. 14 in supply chain, No. 20 in management, No. 21 in entrepreneurship, as well as No. 13 in finance among public institutions. The supply chain and management undergraduate programs rose four spots each compared to the 2023 rankings.

“Over the past few years we have made significant investments in the undergraduate program, including the launch of the computational finance minor, the sports management program, the Interdisciplinary Business Honors program, and the Smith Business Leadership Fellows program,” said Dean Prabhudev Konana. “We have created new classrooms designed for collaboration, a new home for the QUEST program, and a new lounge for SBLF. We have some of the leading scholars teaching in these programs, including Professors Pete Kyle and Rajshree Agarwal. The undergraduate program has also grown, with the largest incoming class ever this year. We are incredibly proud of the work that has been done to deliver an exceptional educational experience to Smith students.”

The rankings methodology included metrics measuring social mobility, faculty research and recent graduate success, as well as graduation rates and peer assessments.

President Darryll Pines, in a message to the UMD community, noted that the ranking’s “deeper meaning is a reflection of our work as a university community to serve the public good, including the investments we have made in our people.”
