Everything that is global at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business was on colorful display outside of Van Munching Hall on May 7, 2015, for the first Smith Global Showcase organized by the Office of Global Initiatives (OGI). Hundreds of students, staff and faculty gathered around the table displays to share stories from their undergraduate study abroad experiences this past year, while dozens more detailed the global learning they enjoyed here in College Park.
Faculty and staff who will be leading short-term, for credit courses during 2016’s winter and spring breaks, came to promote their programs to Nicaragua, Paris/Amsterdam; Brussels/London/Amsterdam; Cape Town and Saigon/Hong Kong. Students also shared stories of their learning while studying for a semester on almost every continent.
Embassies located in Washington, D.C., including from Brazil and the Netherlands, lent their support by sending books, brochures and maps to help promote 2016’s faculty led programs to their countries.
Smith has a lot to celebrate when it comes to being global and here is what was celebrated at the Smith Global Showcase:
BY THE NUMBERS
30% of the total students Maryland sends abroad each year are sent by Smith - the highest rate on campus.
360 undergrads and 230 MBA students studied or interned abroad in the 2013-14 academic year.
100+ international exchange and visiting students are welcomed to Smith annually.
57,000 alumni spanning 58 countries in the Smith network.
