Over 100 Smith undergraduate students and several faculty members -- Gary Bulmash, Hugh Turner, Elinda Kiss, and Mary Harms -- recently traveled to New York City for two days of networking with alumni, company visits and sightseeing. Members of the Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA) mingled with over 50 local alumni at a reception in Times Square on Thursday evening.

Smith senior Jeremy Erdman credits the annual trek with helping him secure a full-time job after he graduates this May. “I was able to connect with an alumnus last year and again this year on the SUSA trip who ultimately helped me land a job at his firm,” says Erdman.

On Friday, Smith students broke into accounting, entertainment industry, finance, and marketing tracks and visited companies like Pricewaterhouse Coopers, LiveNation, Barclays, CitiGroup, Goldman Sachs, and Ogilvy & Mather. Representatives from each company hosted information sessions and gave Smith students valuable job application recommendations. Students networked with company employees, many of whom were Smith alumni.

According to Monisha Tripathi, Smith undergraduate and the marketing track leader, the annual trip to New York City is, “an integral component of students' extracurricular and career planning experience while in school.” Tripathi credits the annual trip with helping her secure three different internships. “I truly believe that it is an invaluable experience and one that I wish I could continue even after I graduate,” she says.

The SUSA NYC Trek continues to be a great opportunity for Smith students to get to know an active NYC alumni base, explore opportunities in New York and learn about some great companies.
