Sixteen new PhD students are beginning their academic journey at the Smith School this fall. Hailing from all across the globe and from a variety of professional and academic backgrounds, these new PhDs will be researching alongside Smith's best and brightest minds.
"We are very excited to welcome our PhDs to the Smith School of Business," says Bob Windle, academic director of Smith's PhD Program. "We have students joining us from Big 10 universities, universities across the country and universities across the globe. Their diverse backgrounds will make for an excellent new class of researchers and academics here at Smith."
The University of Maryland's Institute for Systems Research (ISR) program, a research unit within the A. James Clark School of Engineering, is funding one of Smith's new PhDs. She will be doing joint research between the business and engineering school.
This new class of PhDs is 31 percent female, has an average GMAT score of 729, and has an average GPA of 3.68 (undergraduate) and 3.69 (graduate). They will explore topics such as asset pricing, health care management, data mining, price discrimination and many more.
