The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland opened its doors to its newest class of part-time MBA students on Aug. 18 for the 2012 orientation.
Some of Smith’s busiest students, this group of MBAs are students part-time and employed full-time. Because of that, their classes can take place on evenings during the week or on a full day of class on Saturday.
To get them used to this new and busy schedule, part-time orientation was held on a Saturday and was packed full of information about their years to come as members of the Smith community.
Their day began with a welcome from Smith School Dean G. “Anand” Anandalingam and Associate Dean of MBA and MS Programs Ken White.
Shortly thereafter, the students learned about opportunities to get involved with some of Smith’s Centers of Excellence, including the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship and the Center for Social Value Creation.
Students broke for a quick icebreaker session before attending panels during which professors and current students talked with them about what they could expect both in and out of the classroom as part of the program.
The afternoon was filled with more presentations, including a presentation from the Office of Global Studies and the Office of Career Services. Part-time students are encouraged to participate in 10-day study abroad courses as part of their experience at the Smith School.
To wrap up this intensive day, students heard from several part-time student organizations and networked with one another. Their busy day much resembled the fast-paced schedule of Smith’s part-time MBA students. And with that, their time at Smith had begun.
