Univ. of Maryland Business School Offers Speakers Series to Build Executives’ Business Knowledge

College Park, Md. – August 26, 2008 — The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced it is offering the Smith EMBA Speakers Series, a unique forum presenting innovative ideas and knowledge for business executives. The series will be offered without charge and will feature Smith’s world-leading faculty and business leaders. Topics will offer solutions for common strategic challenges as well as information about how Smith’s top-ranked Executive MBA program offers opportunities for further career development. Understanding and Assessing Strategic Intelligence, Wednesday, Sept. 3, 6:45 p.m. Presented by Hugh Courtney, associate dean of executive program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. What are the attributes of strategic leaders – those rare individuals with the ability to formulate bold visions, make the right bets, and align their organizations to ensure flawless execution of their strategies? In this session, attendees will attain a new construct for evaluating and developing their “strategic intelligence” (SQ).

Strategy as Purposeful Action, Wednesday, Sept. 17, 6:45 p.m. Presented by J. Gerald Suarez, associate dean of external strategy at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Finding purpose and passion on the job, is this actually possible? This powerful presentation will develop the concept of strategy as purposeful action, and will introduce tools to aid transformational leaders in effectively turning strategic thinking into strategic action.

Best-selling Author, Entrepreneur, and Forbes Magazine Publisher and Columnist Rich Karlgaard, Tuesday, Oct. 7, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Join popular columnist and publisher of Forbes, Rich Karlgaard for an insightful and intimate chat. Karlgaard will be available to sign copies of his best-selling book, Life 2.0: How People Across America Are Transforming Their Lives by Finding the Where of Their Happiness.(Seating may be limited for this event.)
