Water Sustainability Initiative Underway from Smith’s CSVC, AquaKraft

The Smith School’s Center for Social Value Creation and AquaKraft Ventures launch Water Parliament, a global think tank advancing water sustainability. Led by Nima Farshchi, it promotes governance, innovation, and investment, including AQOIN, the first water-backed digital asset.

The Center for Social Value Creation at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and India-based AquaKraft Ventures are partnering in Water Parliament, a think tank to drive the next emerging trend in water sustainability and stewardship globally.

The collaboration positions the CSVC at the forefront of thought leadership of water sustainability through our top-tier faculty, experiential learning and student engagement, says CSVC Executive Director Nima Farshchi, who serves along with CSVC student team member Eileen Chen on the think tank’s governing council.

“Water Parliament will function as a global platform dedicated to democratizing water governance, fostering sustainable water management, and ensuring equitable access to this vital resource,” Farshchi adds. “Rooted in inclusivity, innovation and accountability, it aims to address global water challenges through collective action and participatory decision-making.”

Reinforcing and enabling the new think tank, Aquakraft previously did a pilot of its water sustainability initiatives with the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Planning. And in a subsequent, recent ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Building in D.C., to unveil Water Parliament, the initiative was introduced as “transformative” and poised to redefine global water governance, investment and stewardship, and unlock the economic value of water. The event further introduced AQOIN, as the world’s first water-backed digital asset, “setting a new precedent” for sustainable water management.

"We stand at a pivotal moment in history. We can continue treating water as an endless resource, or we can acknowledge its true worth and take action to protect it. With the Water Parliament, we bring governance. With AQOIN, we bring value,” says AquaKraft Chairman and CEO Subramanya Kusnur in a recent LinkedIn post. “Together, we can secure the future of water.”

Water Parliament also functions as an extension of the recently announced CSVC collaboration with AqVerium, an AquaKraft subgroup.
