Smith Vets Club

Smith Vets is established for the expressed purpose of facilitating contact between current MBA students and potential employers, maintaining an outreach program for prospective veteran applicants, and perpetuating a network of veteran students able to assist each other throughout the MBA program. We are committed to coordinating value-added events that build close camaraderie amongst our distinguished members and the Smith MBA cohort.

Board Members

Harrison Hill

President
hhill1@umd.edu

Harrison is originally from Roseburg, Oregon and is currently a second year MBA candidate at the University of Maryland. Previously, Harrison served in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Assaultman with 1st Battalion 7th Marines. He deployed twice to the Middle East and pioneered the Marine Corps first 3D printed drone integration program. Harrison currently serves as the Smith Vet President and carries a passion for the Smith School of Business's veteran community. While pursuing opportunities in the Intelligence Community Harrison looks to advance his strategic planning, business development and technology management skillsets. Harrison completed an internship at the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security in the summer of 2024 and will graduate from the Full Time MBA program in the spring of 2025. With a robust network of domestic and international partners, Harrison will look to leverage his skills and experiences to aid in overcoming complex national secruity challenges upon graduation.

Fun Fact

I love horseback riding in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Hugh Rainey

Hugh is an MBA professional, originally from West Chester, Pennsylvania, and comes from from a four-year in stint of logistics and supply chain planning in the United States Marine Corps. His leadership and operational experience awarded him a fellowship with the Initiative for Veterans in Lifelong Leadership (IVL2), a program that continues to foster a strong veteran community at the Smith Business School. He currently pursues tech and operations management, while continuing to refine his leadership skills and strategy development. He will finish the program in May 2025, with a strong business acumen and an expansive network that crosses many different cultures.

I love grilling outside and performing country songs.

Conner Phillips

Vice President of Finance

Conner is a Project Management Professional (PMP) with a Sport Business degree from Saint Leo University. Originally from Broadalbin, NY, he spent the past five years on active duty in the US Army. As a seasoned Sergeant, he has accrued six years of professional experience, including four years dedicated to military intelligence analysis. His expertise in quantitative analysis has enabled him to effectively collect, analyze, and disseminate critical intelligence information to military decision-makers. His leadership and operational experience have been instrumental in managing teams to achieve both short- and long-term project goals. His current focus is on furthering his career in project management and aims to obtain a master’s degree as a natural progression of his professional training.

Fun Fact

I've played soccer in Italy.
