College Park, Md. – June 15, 2009 – A collaborative white paper, Building A Cyber Supply Chain Assurance Reference Model, released today by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) [NYSE:SAI] and the Supply Chain Management Center at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, tackles the nation’s cyber threat — now elevated to a presidential imperative — with an outline for an innovative model that applies end-to-end supply chain management to cyber security for the first time.

Smith’s Logistics, Transportation & Supply Chain Management Society (LTSCM) hosted its annual LTSCM Alumni Night and Industry Day on October 23 and 24, 2008, welcoming dozens of students, faculty, recruiters, and alumni. Blasgen, president and chief executive officer of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), as the 2008 “Person of the Year.” The award is presented annually to an influential leader in the logistics, supply chain or transportation industries.

Smith School thought leadership and research is prominently featured in the World Economic Forum’s annual Global Information Technology Report, released on April 9, 2008. Within the report Sandor Boyson, co-director of the Supply Chain Management Center at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, and co-author David Boyer, a research scientist with Avaya Labs, offer a blueprint for nations to better leverage emerging communications capabilities and technologies to spur economic and social development.

Smith’s newly elected MBA Supply Chain Club (SCC) leaders are entering office with not one but two major victories under their belts. Two teams of first- and second-year MBA students placed first and second at the FedEx Freight International Graduate Logistics Case Competition and Purdue University's Global Supply Chain Case Competition, respectively. Teams were sponsored by Smith’s logistics, business, and public policy department and faculty representative Hugh Turner, Tyser Teaching Fellow.
