Eight Professors Earn Krowe, Legg Mason, Smith Honors

Eight faculty members earned Maryland Smith teaching honors last week, as part of an annual tradition at the business school. Tunay Tunca, chair of Maryland Smith's Teaching Excellence Committee, announced the faculty teaching awards during a virtual spring faculty and staff assembly. It made him see the impact one person can have and it set the course for his life and career. And it happened 80 years ago, before Konana was even born.

Prabhudev Konana Is Named Dean of Robert H. Smith School of Business

The University of Maryland has named Prabhudev Konana, Ph.D., Dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business, effective January 2, 2021. In this role, he will lead Smith in its mission to create knowledge, promote an inclusive learning environment that fosters intellectual discovery, and equip current and future leaders to assess complex problems and deliver innovative solutions.

Highlights from the First Smith Day!

On Nov. 15, 2017, students, faculty, staff, and alumni celebrated Smith Day, a new tradition that celebrates the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff joined the inaugural celebration in Van Munching Hall and at campuses in Shady Grove and Baltimore, Md., and Washington, D.C. Nearly 300 alumni attended Smith Day events at nine locations around the world, including China and the Philippines.

Girl Scout Cookie College Comes to Smith

More than 200 Girl Scouts came to Cookie College and learned about the business of selling cookies on Dec. 10, 2016, at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. “The girls learned life skills like goal setting and money management that will help them in all aspects of life,” said Sara Tyler, program specialist at the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital. “It sets them up for life.”
