Smith School Community Mourns Loss of Board Member Mike Corvino

The University of Maryland community is mourning the loss of Mike Corvino, president of JanSport and a valued member of the Board of Visitors at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Corvino was killed in a car accident on Saturday, July 14, 2007. As a board member, Corvino was very involved and enthusiastic about his consultative role with the school. Most recently, he helped bring JanSport's founder, Skip Yowell, to the Smith CEO Entrepreneurship Conference, which was held in April.

College Park, MD March 13, 2007 SHOP DC, a Washington, D.C. shopping and fashion guide founded by Zoey Rawlins, was recently acquired by Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI) and has been relaunched as DC Scout. A former University of Maryland MBA student, Rawlins announced she will use some of the proceeds to benefit student entrepreneurs at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Beers & Cutler Supports University Of Maryland Business School With Scholarship Endowment

May 16, 2006, Tysons Corner, VA Beers & Cutler, the leading accounting and consulting firm focused on the Washington DC region, announced today its plans to establish the James R. Beers Scholarship Endowment with a donation from Beers & Cutler matched by founding partner Jim Beers totaling $250,000 to the University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business. University of Maryland Business School Names 2006 Leadership and Excellence Award Winners

College Park, MD May 2, 2006 The University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business today announced the recipients of the annual Smith Leadership and Excellence Awards, honoring business leaders and organizations that have made significant and positive impact to their industries and the community in the mid-Atlantic region. Howard Frank, dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business, will present the 2006 awards at a ceremony and banquet on Thursday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center on the universitys College Park campus.

Five Smith School Alumni Leaders Inducted Into University of Maryland Alumni Hall of Fame

On Saturday, June 4, 2005, in a ceremony that occurs only once every five years, the Maryland Alumni Association bestowed its highest honor on a third Hall of Fame Class, the first to be inducted in the new Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center. Congratulations to five of the most outstanding Smith School alumni leaders: Robert H. Smith '50; Thomas V. Miller '64, '67; Gary Williams '68; Larry David '69, '70; and Carly Fiorina, MBA '80.

Ernst & Young Foundation Presents $37,000 Gift to Smith School

The Ernst & Young Foundation presented a matching gifts check for $37,073 to Dean Howard Frank on May 5, 2005 to the Robert H. Smith School of Business on behalf of University of Maryland alumni partners, retirees and staff. Of the total amount, $28,323 is designated for the Ernst & Young Education Excellence Fund, $7,500 to the Dando Scholarship Fund and $1,250 to the Lamone Fund. When combined with individual alumni contributions, the check from the Ernst & Young Foundation brings the organizations total gifts to the Smith School over the past year to $71,446.
