Robert Kashan ’76 Receives Leadership for Better Business Award at Social Enterprise Symposium

The Center for Social Value Creation at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business introduced its first “Leadership for Better Business Award” at the annual Social Enterprise Symposium on Friday, March 3, 2017. The award was created to recognize individuals who embody business principles that advance economic, social and environmental prosperity.

Exporters Targeted for UMD-Hosted Workshop in Baltimore

Prospective PT-MBA Students Attend Super Saturday

Applicants to the part-time MBA program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business were invited to visit Van Munching Hall, home of the Smith School, on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, as part of a new admissions event series: “Smith Super Saturdays.” Nearly 100 prospective PT-MBA students attended the event last weekend, which included networking sessions, workshops, panels, meet-and-greet with faculty, and interviews by current students and alumni.

An Evening with Smith’s Monument Maker, Lisa Anders, MBA '95

Building the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and then the National Museum of African American History and Culture changes a person. Lisa Anders, an MBA graduate at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, led both projects and will discuss her experiences at a Black History Month celebration 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 8, 2017, at the campus’ Riggs Alumni Center.

Smith School Supports Teddy Bear Partnership

On Jan. 24, 2017, the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business was pleased to donate more than 80 stuffed animals to the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office as part of their “Teddy Bear Partnership.” Officers will use the stuffed animals to help comfort children who are involved in domestic violence service calls.

Five University of Maryland Student Startups to Compete in Pitch Dingman Competition

Each year, the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship hosts Pitch Dingman Competition, an opportunity for University of Maryland student entrepreneurs to pitch their businesses shark tank style to an expert panel of judges to compete for a total of $30,000 in seed funding. Pitch Dingman applications open at the beginning of the academic year, with a short quarterfinals phase in late September. Congrats to New Smith Alumni!

On Dec. 21, 2016, over 800 students graduated from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business with PhD, MS, MBA, and BS degrees. The commencement ceremony was held at the Xfinity Center on the university’s College Park campus. You can watch the entire ceremony online.
