Elsa Barkley Brown, Associate Professor of History and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, discusses her ongoing research into the history of Black women at the University of Maryland. Drawing on archival research as well as student-conducted oral histories, Barkley Brown points toward a fuller history of the University by moving beyond recognizing firsts to consider Black women’s daily lives on campus. Hosted by the University of Maryland Emeritus/Emerita Association and open to the whole campus community.

This colloquium from the ARHU Dean’s Colloquium Series on Race, Equity and Justice features Tamanika Ferguson, a presidential postdoc in the Communication Department at Maryland, who will discuss incarcerated women and media activism.
