Faculty at University of Marylands Smith School of Business Win Smith Breeden Award

College Park, Md. January 24, 2007 The American Finance Association has honored two professors at the University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business with the prestigious Smith Breeden Distinguished Paper Prize. Gregory Willard and Mark Loewenstein won the award for their paper, The Limits of Investor Behavior, published in the February 2006 issue of the Journal of Finance. The prize was presented at the associations annual conference, held January 5-7 in Chicago.

Emission Reductions, Renewable Energy, and Energy Efficiency The Triple Convergence

Peter C. Fusaro, one of the world's leading experts on energy and environmental markets, spoke at the Smith School of Business on December 5, 2006. Fusaro is the founder of Global Change Associates and the CEO of Energy & Environment Capital Management, LLC. He is also a frequent consultant to governments and the author of What Went Wrong at Enron. Fusaro spoke on the latest trends in energy and environmental markets, including recent policy and technological developments. Fusaro's talk was organized by the Smith chapter of Net Impact and by the Smith MBA Finance Association.

Deadline Closing On Call for Nominations for Robert H. Smith School of Business 2007 Leadership and Excellence Awards

College Park, Md. December 5, 2006 The University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business is posting a last call for nominations for the schools 2007 Smith Leadership and Excellence Awards by the Dec. 14 deadline for submission. The annual awards, which pay tribute to business leaders and organizations that have made a significant and positive impact in the mid-Atlantic region, will be presented in four categories: Business Excellence, Leaders for the Digital Economy, Leadership Excellence, and Public Excellence.

Smith Announces Top 15% Teaching Award Recipients

The Smith School is pleased to announce the Top 15 % Teaching Award recipients for 2005-06. The Top 15% Teaching Awards are based on faculty performance during the previous academic year, consisting of fall semester, winter semester, spring semester, and summer semester sessions I and II, in that order.

Lemma Senbet Honored for Contributions to Smith School

Lemma Senbet, William E. Mayer Professor of Finance, was honored for his many years of service to the finance department, and the Smith School of Business, at a lavish dinner party at the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C., on October 5, 2006. The gala event was attended by about 90 people, including all the former chairs of the department, and a past dean of the University of Washington, who flew in specially for the event. Former Smith School Deans Rudy Lamone and Bill Mayer were also present to express their appreciation for Lemmas many contributions to the Smith School community.

Smith Faculty Headline Management Conference in Zrich

Smith faculty members brought the Smith Schools thought leadership to Europe in a series of workshops Tuesday, October 3 at the 16th Zrich MBA Congress. Rhonda Reger, professor of management and organization, Gurdip Bakshi, professor of finance, Judy Frels, senior director of custom programs, and Rob Sheehan, academic director for executive MBA and executive degree programs, were among thought leaders presenting at the conference, which focused on leading management issues.

University of Maryland Business School Professor Wins Prestigious Von Humboldt Award

College Park, Md. – February 21, 2006 – Today the University of Marylands Robert H. Smith School of Business announced that Dilip Madan, professor of finance, has been selected to receive a 2006 Alexander von Humboldt Research Award in mathematics. Humboldt Awards are considered among the highest honors given to internationally recognized scholars. Forty past recipients have received the Nobel Prize in their fields, including five of the 2005 Nobel Laureates. Madan will receive his award from the President of the Humboldt Foundation this July in Berlin, Germany.
