The school’s previous photo contests in 2012 and 2014 boasted more than 700 entries. Do you have the next winning picture? Winning photos will be displayed in Van Munching Hall and featured in the spring 2017 issue of Smith Business magazine.

Specialty Masters Students Compete in Smith School Case Competition

On Nov. 11, 2016, specialty masters students at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business participated in a case competition at the Smith School in Van Munching Hall. Sixteen groups—89 students total—presented during this event, which was hosted by the Office of Career Services in collaboration with lead faculty judge Barney Corwin.

Grand Opening for University of Maryland Research Data Center (UMDRDC) is Nov 18

Launched this fall, the University of Maryland Research Data Center (UMDRDC) is the newest facility of the national Federal Statistical Research Data Centers (FSRDC) network. A Grand Opening Ceremony will be held on Nov. 18, 2016, at the University of Maryland’s College Park campus.

International Education Week is Nov 14-18

It is sometimes said that you cannot truly know another culture without knowing its language. In fact, culture informs the business environment of every country and knowledge of a foreign language is among the most immediately recognizable signs of a global mindset. According to a 2014 survey conducted by the Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs), 90 percent of employers in the U.S. consider language skills to be important to the international experience of their staff. 

Smith Terps Participate in Community Service Learning at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary

On Friday, October 21, 2016, students and staff from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business participated in a community service learning activity with the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary on the Patuxent River in Lothian, Maryland. Smith Terp volunteers got a tour of the beautiful gardens. They also learned about ecology and how non-native invasive plants can have a negative impact. The students made a significant impact to the sanctuary by identifying and removing invasive plants by hand pulling them.

Produced, directed and filmed by an all-female cast, the documentary film calls for economic inclusion and development in the corporate world, connecting the power of social good and profitability.

Smith School Hosts Secretary of Commerce Mike Gill

Smith School of Business celebrated its partnership with the Maryland Department of Commerce by hosting a discussion about "Maryland Open for Business" with Mike Gill, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Commerce, and Smith School Dean Alex Triantis.
