Smith Commencement is May 21

Please join us to celebrate the accomplishments of more than 1,200 graduates from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Md. The campus-wide ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. (Tickets are required for the main campus ceremony.) Smith’s undergraduate ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. and the graduate ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. (No tickets are required for the Smith School ceremonies.)

Food Truck Thursdays - May 7 & 14

Food trucks will visit the Robert H. Smith School of Business on May 7 and May 14 to serve a variety of lunch options to hungry students, faculty and staff. The participating food trucks vary by week and will include:

Smith School VITA Program Files for Success

As tax season comes to a close, the new Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) chapter at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business celebrated their first season of operation, and almost 100 returns filed successfully. The VITA program was established by site coordinator Samuel Handwerger and professor Martin Loeb, with help from Wei Wu ’13 and 12 core student volunteers.

Ratner Talks with Huff Post Live Today at 4 p.m.

Smith School Professor and Assistant Dean Rebecca Ratner talks with Huff Post Live today, Wednesday, April 29 at 4 p.m./EDT. Many people feel embarrassed about doing fun activities alone, such as dining out or going to a movie. Ratner's research finds that when solo consumers do venture out, they enjoy themselves more than they expect. The challenge for companies that offer fun experiences is to figure out how to market to solo consumers. Watch the show.

1. Keep it simple. When it comes to headshots, less is definitely more. The focus should always be on YOU and your face, not any other part of the photo. 2. Be confident! Confidence and effort go a long way, and a great headshot can help you get noticed by employers. Once you have a professional headshot, be sure to feature it on LinkedIn, Twitter and your personal website.

CEO@Smith: Barry Salzberg, Deloitte

Barry Salzberg, Global CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), spoke to students, faculty and alumni at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business on April 13, 2015, at the final CEO@Smith lecture of the semester.  In a conversation with Dr. Jeffrey Kudisch, assistant dean of corporate relations, Salzberg shared his insights on the challenges of managing an organization that spans continents: the global network has 47 member firms operating in more than 140 countries, with approximately 210,000 staff members.
