Smith Freshmen Discuss Global Mindset at YPI

On Monday, April 6, 2015, the freshman class of the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business gathered at the Riggs Alumni Center to discuss the importance of having a global mindset and modern diversity in the workplace during the Young Professionals Institute (YPI). Prior to YPI, the students were given a brief case study centering on “A Global Acquisition Gone Sour in South Africa” (Mansour and Walker, 2013).

Smith sophomores expand their global mindset through first-ever colloquium course

“You don’t need to leave the United States to develop a global mindset,” said sophomore supply chain management and international business major Stefanie Kilyk after attending Smith’s Global Mindset Colloquium Celebration on Dec. 5, 2014. Kilyk, like many other undergraduates who participated in the pilot semester of the global mindset course, found tremendous benefit in the colloquium developed in collaboration between the Smith Undergraduate Program and Ernst and Young.

Schoolchildren Visit Smith for Career Day

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The University of Maryland had a younger look on May 2, 2014, when nearly 200 fourth- and fifth-graders visited the Smith School of Business for Career Day. The children, from Broad Acres Elementary School in nearby Silver Spring, Md., met a sportswriter, astronomer, 3D animator, police officer and many other professionals.

College Application Alumni Night

Last semester, the school hosted the Smith Alumni & Family Open House to help the family navigate the college admission process.  Student ambassadors, young alumni and Undergraduate Studies Dean Victor Mullins hosted breakout sessions for alumni and their family members at the Oct. 12 event.
