Each year, the Center for Global Business at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business offers 20 students the opportunity to study Social Innovation in the Context of Contemporary South Africa. Malik Sulieman, a senior finance major, reflects on his experience alongside the remaining students who were divided into four working groups. Smith Students Study Entrepreneurship in Africa
Twenty students from the University of Maryland traveled to South Africa over winter break, Jan. 4-17, 2016, in partnership with the University of Cape Town's SHAWCO-Centre for Entrepreneurship. This is the second year that students at the Robert H. Smith School of Business have participated in this global learning experience.
Smith Students Get Hands-on Experience in South Africa
Twelve high-achieving undergraduate students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business spent thirteen days in May in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of Smith Stars, an outreach program for underrepresented students. With a focus on social change and innovation in a South African context, the program provided the students with opportunities to engage with the local community of Cape Town, explore cultural and historical landmarks, and learn from local social enterprises and changemakers in the country.
