University of Maryland Business School Expands Third Annual China Business Plan Competition

Beijing, China April 17, 2007 - The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, a leading provider of Executive MBA programs in China, today announced a series of initiatives designed to promote world-class innovation and business ideas through the expansion of its annual China Business Plan Competition. Now in its third year, the competition will award $50,000 in prize money during a final round competition in September.

Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland will host a community-wide entrepreneurship conference, Turning your Passion into Profit, Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the Universities at Shady Grove (9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, Md.) The Smith Schools chapter of CEO (Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization) organized the daylong conference, which begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 4 p.m., engaging prospective and future business owners, entrepreneurs, and students throughout the Washington region.

Smith students at the schools Shady Grove campus pulled off a professional and very successful daylong entrepreneurship conference on Saturday, April 14. About 250 people attended the Turning Your Passion Into Profit entrepreneurship conference, organized by undergraduates in Smiths chapter of CEO (Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization) at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Md.

Smith Student Entrepreneurs Enter Business Clothing Market

Smith School students in the Maryland Undergraduate Society of Entrepreneurs (MUSE) are excited to launch a new club-run venture called "Terrapin Clothiers." The service will provide University of Maryland students with the opportunity to purchase leading professional brand suits and business accessories at introductory prices. "Through our partnership with Kendrick's, students can take advantage of special discounted pricing on all of our product lines," says Nick Singer, MUSE's vice president of operations.

A former University of Maryland MBA student, Rawlins announced she will use some of the proceeds to benefit student entrepreneurs at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Smith MBA Venture Capital Investment Competition

The Smith Entrepreneurship Club is pleased to announce the Venture Capital Investment Competition on February 14-16, 2007 at the Smith School of Business. In the competition, MBA students judge the business plans and pitches of local start-up companies currently seeking funding, choose a company in which to invest, and produce a term sheet for the investment. In turn, the MBA students are judged by real life venture capitalists.

On one of the coldest mornings of the year, three Smith students in the Maryland Undergraduate Society of Entrepreneurs (MUSE) identified a market niche and set up shop in front of Van Munching Hall with steaming hot chocolate and tasty muffins, successfully tempting students, faculty and staff as they hurried into the building on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007.
