UMD hosts Former Ambassador to Australia during International Education Week
Students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland (UMD) joined former Ambassador to Australia and UMD alumnus John Berry for a luncheon conversation about how diplomacy fosters U.S. business overseas with a particular focus on Australia. The event, which took place on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, kicked off International Education Week, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education to celebrate international education and exchange in the U.S.
Smith MBA Interns Go Six-for-Six at Citi
Six MBA students at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business did summer 2017 internships at Citi in New York City, and all six received full-time job offers at the end of the program. “Citi has a collaborative culture, which is something I find very appealing,” said Joseph Caraccio, a U.S. Army veteran who was part of the Smith School group. “It was something that attracted me to Smith, so I wanted to work in a company that has that culture as well.”

Undergraduate Students Participate in PwC Case Competition

PwC hosted a case competition on Nov. 1, at the Riggs Alumni Center that gave students hands-on experience with consulting and a peek into what a career in consulting might look like.
Students Take Annual Trek to New York City
Nov. 2-3, 2017, nearly 200 students from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business traveled to New York City for the annual “Smith in the City” trip. FDIC Chairman Gives Context to 2008 Financial Crisis
Factors and implications surrounding the financial crisis of 2008 was the focus of a recent presentation by Martin J. Gruenberg, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, hosted by the Center for Financial Policy at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Smith Professor of Finance Haluk Ünal introduced Gruenberg to students, faculty and staff gathered in the Frank Auditorium for the Nov. 3, 2017 event, titled “The Financial Crisis and its Aftermath.”
Smith School and Bowie State University Represented at International CIBER Case Challenge
The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business sponsored eight undergraduate students, four from UMD and four from partner institution Bowie State University, to the 2017 CIBER Case Challenge hosted by the University of Connecticut. The competition, which took place Oct. 11-15, 2017, included student representatives from universities across the world. Students were organized on teams with participants from other U.S. and international universities and tackled an international business case over the course of the weekend.
