Ernst & Young Sponsors Freshman Fellows Orientation

College Park, Md. – Aug. 29, 2011 – The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted its annual Freshman Fellows Orientation Program, sponsored by Ernst & Young. Staffed by representatives from both the Smith School and Ernst & Young, the day kicked off with group icebreakers and several songs performed by UMD a capella group, The Generics.

MBAs Get Career Path Direction at Orientation Week

MBA students got a dose of career guidance at their introduction to Smith’s Office of Career Services (OCS) on Wednesday and Thursday of Full-Time MBA Orientation Week. The OCS is rallying students behind its mission to help them develop as leaders for the organizations where they will ultimately land at the conclusion of their two-year MBA program and the orientation content reflected that goal.

Smith School Welcomes 300 MS Students

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business welcomed 300 new MS students from around the world on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. The school currently has four MS programs: accounting, finance, supply chain management (SCM), and information systems (IS) – SCM and IS just launched this year. These new students will join about 180 existing MS students already studying finance and accounting.

Welcome Full-Time Smith MBA Class of 2013

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business full-time MBA Class of 2013 filled the grand atrium in Van Munching Hall to kick off this year’s MBA Orientation. The weeklong orientation began on August 18, 2011, with a breakfast for the new students, followed by a welcome from Dean G. “Anand” Anandalingam, Associate Dean of MBA and MS Programs Bob Krapfel and a few members of the MBA Association (MBAA).

Smith School Professor Emeritus Saul Gass Publishes New Book

Decision, Operations and Information Technologies Professor Emeritus Saul Gass has published a new book titled “Profiles in Operations Research: Pioneers and Innovators.” The book was co-edited with Arjang Assad, dean of the School of Management, University at Buffalo, SUNY, and former senior associate dean of the Smith School. The book was published by Springer and is available for purchase on Amazon.com.

BSE Scholars Participate in 2011 Service Day

Freshmen in the University of Maryland’s College Park Scholars: Business, Society and the Economy program began their semester on August 29 by helping their community at two homeless shelters in Silver Spring.
