For an unprecedented third time, Toby Egan, associate professor in the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and its School of Public Policy, was recently awarded the Richard A. Swanson Research Excellence Award, given to the authors of the outstanding refereed research article in each annual volume of Human Resource Development Quarterly.

For many organizations, the pandemic era has been a test of resilience and adaptability. Maryland Smith’s TerpTax is acing that test. TerpTax, Maryland Smith’s free tax preparation service, puts volunteer undergrad students to work helping qualifying community members and UMD graduate students file their taxes. Most years, those tax returns are filed by the April 15 deadline, and soon after, the student volunteers head off in all directions for internships or job prospects. But 2020 was not like other years. And TerpTax was ready to adapt.

Business schools from the Big Ten universities are teaming up to increase diversity in their PhD programs. Rebecca Hann, assistant dean of doctoral programs and accounting professor, is leading the charge at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Maryland Smith marketing professor Michael Trusov was named to the 2020 class of Marketing Science Institute (MSI) Scholars, a select group of 35 mid-career faculty, considered among the “most prominent marketing scholars in the world,” by the American Marketing Association group.

Series Focused on Mortgage Industry to be delivered by Maryland Smith, Collateral Risk Network Residential collateral risk professionals can expand their knowledge base and build risk management skills through a forthcoming education series jointly presented by the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and the Collateral Risk Network (CRN). The four-part Collateral Risk Education series will run online 7-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 14, 16, 21 and 23.
