Maryland Smith Launches Dual Degree Graduate Program

Business School Partners with India’s SPJIMR Aug. 14, 2018 (College Park, Md.) — A new partnership with India’s S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research will give the University of Maryland its first dual degree graduate program with an institution outside the Maryland system. Participants will earn a Master of Quantitative Finance from Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and a Global Management Program Certificate from SPJIMR, a leading business school in Mumbai.

Smith School Hosts MBA Students from Beijing

The Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted 37 first-year MBA students from Guanghua School of Management, Peking University (“PKU”) in Beijing, for a weeklong program that began July 16, 2018. The program included lectures from business and public policy faculty focused on topics related to a series of related site visits, e-commerce and a case competition.

Center for Global Business Hosts Fintech Discussion

The Center for Global Business (CGB) at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business and the U.S. Department of Commerce welcomed the Chief Fintech Officer of Singapore’s Monetary Authority, Sopnendu Mohanty on April 23, 2018 to discuss trending issues in fintech and blockchain technologies while focusing on the U.S. approach to fintech opportunities in the Indo-Pacific region.

Applications Open for 2019 Study Abroad Programs

Smith School undergraduates have many opportunities to develop their global mindset, including through study abroad. Studying abroad gives students the opportunity to expand their network, gain skills needed to compete in a global economy, and discover a new sense of adaptability. Devin Thrasher, a Senior Accounting Major, participated in Accounting’s Future, Present, and Past last winter and strongly recommends the program.

Smith School Alumni Address Importance of Global Mindset in the Workplace

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, the Center for Global Business (CGB) and the Office of Career Services (OCS) at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted an alumni panel to discuss the value of global mindset in today’s business environment. Panelists included: Mikael Baker, senior project manager at FHI 360; Lana Bronipolsky, vice president of business operations at MPOWER Financing; and Maurice Nick, supply planning manager at Stanley Black & Decker. The panel was moderated by Rebecca L. Bellinger, managing director of the Center for Global Business.

UMD hosts Former Ambassador to Australia during International Education Week

Students from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Undergraduate Studies at the University of Maryland (UMD) joined former Ambassador to Australia and UMD alumnus John Berry for a luncheon conversation about how diplomacy fosters U.S. business overseas with a particular focus on Australia. The event, which took place on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, kicked off International Education Week, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education to celebrate international education and exchange in the U.S.

Smith Freshmen Take on the World

Freshmen Smith students tackled this question at the Global Young Professional’s Institute on Nov. 10 at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center on campus. This event was lead in part by the Center for Global Business and was the final event of the Smith Start program for the fall semester.

UMD CIBER to Support New Maryland Defense Diversification Assistance Program

The Maryland Department of Commerce launched the Maryland Defense Diversification Assistance Program (MDDA) on Oct. 20, 2017, to help defense-dependent companies in Maryland enter new commercial markets in the United States and abroad. The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland (UMD) will support the program by offering business leadership and export training through its Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER).
