Smith Brain Trust Delivers Bite-Sized Business Insights

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (March 26, 2015) — Working professionals with an interest in the Washington, D.C., region have a new source for bite-sized business insights, delivered weekly to their inboxes from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Smith Brain Trust, published every Thursday, will provide commentary on the latest mergers, marketing campaigns, policy debates, investment news and business research — drawing upon the broad knowledge of the school’s faculty.

UMD-Smith Hosts Tata Dialogue on Innovation

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business in partnership with the Tata group of companies presented the “Tata Dialogue on Innovation” on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. R. “Gopal” Gopalakrishnan, director of Tata Sons, talked with students during a conversation that was moderated by the Smith School’s Vice Dean Joyce Russell. Students from across campus attended the event, which was held Van Munching Hall.

Nominate Favorite Profs for Krowe Award

All faculty, program directors, deans, department chairs, alumni, and students of the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business are invited to nominate deserving Smith School faculty members (i.e., tenured, tenure-track, Tyser Teaching Fellow, lecturer, adjunct, or Ph.D. student) for one of several Krowe Teaching Awards in areas of general excellence. 

18 Winners Selected for Smith’s Second Photo Contest

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, the judges of Smith’s Photo Contest had 199,000 to read through – that’s approximately a 633-page book, in case you are curious. We received 199 submissions for our second iteration of the Smith Photo Contest at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and after a month of online voting and judges’ deliberation, we are proud to share the 18 winning photographs from the talented Smith community.

Smith Grad Students Participate in Case Competition

Students in the five specialty master's programs at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business participated in Smith’s first MS Case Competition on Nov. 14, 2014. Cross-functional teams were formed of 4 to 5 graduate students studying in the following programs: Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Finance, Master of Science in Information Systems, Master of Science in Marketing Analytics, and Master of Science in Supply Chain.

The University of Maryland has selected Robert H. Smith School of Business Professor Gilad Chen as a 2014-15 Distinguished Scholar-Teacher. He is one of six professors to receive the honor this year.
