 The Smith School welcomes hundreds of new faces this fall -- all ready to start an exciting new school year at the University of Maryland. MBA students and MS students were the first to arrive at Van Munching Hall in mid-August for orientations that included special speakers and team-building activities. For four years now, Ernst & Young has hosted the Freshmen Fellows Orientation at Smith, welcoming bright-eyed, eager students to the top-ranked business school. This year’s orientation took place on Aug.

Smith Welcomes New MS Students

In a week filled with activities, MS students at the Robert H. Smith School of Business were introduced to both life at Smith and in the United States. From Wednesday, Aug. 15, to Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, students came from all over to attend the new MS student orientation before starting their school year in College Park.

Smith No. 23 in Academic Ranking of World Universities

The University of Maryland and the Robert H. Smith School of Business are ranked No. 23 in the world for academic and research performance in business/economics in the 2012 Academic Ranking of World Universities, published by the Center for World Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China on August 15.

Recruiters Rank Smith School Accounting Program No. 7

University of Maryland Ranks No. 8, According to Wall Street Journal Survey College Park, Md. -- Sept. 14, 2010 -- The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is a favored source for accounting hires, according to a Wall Street Journal survey of recruiting executives released yesterday. Participants were asked to rank schools that produced the best-qualified graduates for their industries, overall and by major. Recruiters ranked the Smith School No. 7 for accounting and No. 21 for business.

2010 Spring Commencement

Comcast Center was full of good cheer as the Smith School celebrated the commencement of 780 undergraduates, 360 MBA/MS students, 51 EMBA students, and 9 doctoral students on May 21. William Gossman, MBA ’91, CEO of hi5 and keynote speaker at commencement, urged students in his commencement address to “practice their leadership skills on themselves.” “Don’t assume legitimacy. Don’t search for legitimacy. Create it for yourself, today,” said Gossman. “Once you have created that vision and that legitimacy, you need the courage to make it so.”
