Big ideas, the ones capable of fundamentally changing the planet, could come from anywhere, says Crista Gibbons, vice president of client solutions, strategy and operations at National Geographic. Gibbons, who graduated from the part-time MBA program at University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business in 2004, leads a new initiative at National Geographic, called “Chasing Genius.”

Financial Times Ranks Smith Master of Finance #4 in U.S.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (June 20, 2017) — A new ranking by the Financial Times, released yesterday, recognizes the Master of Finance program at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business as No. 4 in the nation and No. 38 in the world. The Financial Times Global Masters in Finance rankings only includes accredited, full-time, cohort-based programs with a minimum of 30 graduates each year. This is the first time the Smith School participated and was ranked.

Maryland Students Make Impact through Global Consulting Programs

From China to Rwanda and numerous places in between, students at the University of Maryland apply their classroom learning in real-world settings to provide valuable feedback to companies seeking to develop their global reach. Through experiential learning programs such as consulting projects offered by the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at the University of Maryland, undergraduate and graduate students from across the university and throughout the state came together in spring 2017 to consult for local and international businesses.

Smith School of Business on Monday at the Xfinity Center on the university’s College Park campus, May 22, 2017. Undergraduate Ceremony At the undergraduate ceremony, graduating senior Cecelia Cizek sang the National Anthem and Kelly Cosgriff delivered the student address.

A Data Jam is a competition in which participants are given a data set and a prompt before being let loose to apply all their creativity and analytical prowess to the problem.
